Eddie Vedder

Eddie Vedder is 60 years old and crap, it’s a reminder that I’m getting old too, but it’s been a life that I’ve enjoyed because it’s been full of great music from recording artists like Eddie and Pearl Jam.

I first started listening to Pearl Jam in 1991 when I was a freshman in high school. Jeremy was the top song played on local alternative music stations like 91x, and I had someone yell “Jeremy Spoken!” from the hallways at least once a day as I walked by.

1991, A Great Year For Music

1991 was also the year that I got my learners permit and that meant blasting my favorite albums in my parents’ car whenever I drove. Yeah, life was good, and it was a great time to be a kid because there was always something to do on a Friday or Saturday night and music played a key part of it.

The alternative music scene was cranking out new music and artists fast back then. Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Janes Addiction and Pearl Jam were what I was always listening to, and it wasn’t hard to stay current with their music because all my friends’ were either skaters or surfers and saw alternative music as the soundtrack for their lives.

Still Producing Great Music

Even though Eddie can’t always reach the same high notes as he did in the early 90’s, the reality is that he’s still producing poignant music. Pearl Jam’s latest album is an excellent example of that but even though they keep cranking out great music, it’s possible that Pearl Jam will one day retire like Rush and many other great bands have.

We all love to think of our favorite recording artists as Mick Jagger, but he’s a one-of-a-kind singer who continues to thrive by pushing himself while other recording artists like Lou Gramm are walking away from the lives that they love because their bodies can’t do it any longer.

While we still have him recording, touring, and creating new music, I’m going to continue following Eddie Vedders music and enjoy the happy memories that I from the early 90’s because I think music is the one thing that gets us as close to time travel that we can possibly get.
