Searching for time travel movies online? You’ve come to the right place!

Time travel is a nerdy, fun topic that I’ve enjoyed since I was a kid and watched Star Trek episodes and dreamed of the possibility of visiting other periods in time.

Until time travel is scientifically proven to be a fact, I guess I’ll have to settle for getting my time travel fix by watching a time travel movie.

Here are my top 5-time travel movies that I recommend watching.

#1 – Back to The Future – The King Of Time Travel Movies

Let’s face it, back to the Future is the quintessential time travel movie, right? It should be required watching by people old and young who express an interest in sci-fi or time travel.

In this iconic time travel movie, Marty travels back in time by accident and must get the help of his trusted Doc Brown to get back to the future.

During his time in the past, Marty meets his future parents, changes their lives for the better and by the end of the movie he’s getting into his time machine again for the hit sequel to this movie, back to the Future 2!

#2 – Timecop

My next pick for the top 5-time travel movies is Timecop!

Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Timecop tells the story of a police office in the early 2000’s goes back to different periods in time to stop people from changing the timeline.

During a trip back to 1994, he realizes that he’s traveled back the same year that his wife was tragically killed, and he gets the chance to save her life while stopping a corrupt politician.

#3 – The Final Countdown

One of the great things about time travel movies is asking what could be changed if someone could go back to stop it?

The Final Countdown is a movie that asks this question when a modern aircraft carrier is sent back in time, one day before December 7^th, 1941, the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Filmed in 1980, this movie lacks the modern touch of today’s sci-fi films, but it has a good story and a lot of drama as the captain struggles with if he should use his ship to stop the invasion of Pearl Harbor or let it happen.

#4 – Frequency

Who doesn’t love a good father-son movie right?

Frequency has that father-son connection, the only catch is that the son talks with his dad (who lives in the past) via a CB radio in the family home.

The dad tragically died 30 years ago so both men get a chance to catch up during CB radio conversations, but those conversations ultimately change history and they both must work together through time to stop a killer and save lives.

#5 – Somewhere in Time

Last of all is Somewhere in Time, another classic time travel movie that stars Christopher Reeve as a young man who falls in love with a young woman, but the only catch is that she lived around the turn of the 20^th Century, and he lives in the 1980’s.

After researching time travel, the man somehow manages to travel back in time to connect with the young woman and start a brief, tragic romance.

That’s it for the top 5 best time travel movies of all time. Yes, there are tons of time travel movies out there that you can enjoy but if you’re new to this genre, start with these movies first before going deeper into the ‘rabbit hole’ that is time travel. 😊
